Irene Kaushansky

Associate Director, Compliance and Operational Integrity

Irene is passionate about business ethics and integrity. She established the Fund’s Integrity and Compliance Program, which is designed to anticipate and respond to challenges that may arise as we pursue our mission and ensures the Fund remains accountable not only for what we do but also for how we do it.

With a background in legal, operational, and ethical organizational management, Irene is a certified operational compliance and contracting professional with 15+ years experience navigating regulatory and contractual requirements associated with donor funding and administering both assistance and acquisition type awards, from the solicitation phase through post-award implementation and closeout. 

Irene leads the Fund’s Safeguarding Task Force. In this role, she brings together diverse GFEMS team members to meet regularly to discuss operations, impact, and updates related to safeguarding risks and procedures across the organization. Earlier in her career, Irene was a Co-Chair of the InterAction Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Working Group. In this role, she helped craft one of the first global training programs aimed at building capacity for NGO personnel in protecting program participants from sexual exploitation and abuse, among other safeguarding considerations. 

Irene received her MA in International Communication from the School of International Service, American University. She also received her BA in History and International Relations at AU where she graduated cum laude and with university honors. She was also a 2019 and 2020 finalist for the Women in Compliance Awards and is a co-chair of the International Development Ethics Practitioners Working Group.
