The Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS) is pleased to announce that, effective October 23, 2019, Sir Rob Wainwright has joined the Fund’s Board of Directors.

The Fund’s mission is to end modern slavery by making it economically unprofitable. As the governing body of GFEMS, the Board of Directors provides financial and management oversight to help fulfill this mission and to grow GFEMS into its vision of an international fund.

Sir Rob is a senior partner at Deloitte, working within the firm’s global cyber security and financial crime practice. He previously served as Executive Director of Europol, where he helped established the European Counter Terrorism Centre and the European Cybercrime Centre. During this time he was also a member of the UK Prime Minister’s Task Force on Modern Slavery. Sir Rob brings deep experience in intelligence, security, and European Union and international affairs.

“We are pleased to welcome Sir Rob Wainwright to our Board,” says GFEMS CEO Dr. Jean Baderschneider. “His insights and experience in financial crime and cyber crime will be invaluable to GFEMS as we seek to increase global coordination of law enforcement efforts to help us identify patterns of vulnerability and crime, increase the effectiveness of prosecutions, and improve data sharing across borders.”

“My work as a security executive has involved supporting a range of international efforts to combat modern slavery over the years, and it’s an issue I am deeply passionate about”, says Sir Rob. “I am grateful for this opportunity to help grow the success of this important initiative and the impact it has on communities around the world.”

GFEMS has secured over 83M USD in bilateral seed funding to combat modern slavery and is deploying investments in the following sectors: sex trafficking, construction, apparel, and migrant labor recruitment. GFEMS coordinates a coherent global strategy to transform the global systems perpetuating modern slavery.

GFEMS thanks Sir Rob for his commitment to this fight and welcomes him to the Fund.
