GFEMS Participates in Senate Human Rights Caucus Panel
On February 27, GFEMS joined U.S. Senators and representatives of anti-slavery non-profits at a briefing on mobilizing resources to combat modern slavery. The event was hosted by Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), co-chairs of the Senate Human Rights Caucus.
“The Global Fund’s goal is to end modern slavery by making it economically unprofitable. To that end, we are developing public-private partnerships that engage governments and businesses around the world, promoting investment in market-based solutions that are win-wins for both public and private sectors,” said CEO Jean Baderschneider, who represented GFEMS on the panel.
Baderschneider was joined on the panel by Claude Fontheim, Chairman of the Board of GoodWeave International, and Neha Misra, Senior Specialist for Migration and Human Trafficking at the Solidarity Center. Remarks were also made by Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Mrs. Cindy McCain.
GFEMS is grateful for the commitment of the Human Rights Caucus, Senator Portman and Mrs. McCain in the fight against modern slavery. Eradication of this crime requires global partnership and coordination and we look forward to future opportunities to work with our U.S. partners, and our partners across the world, to mobilize commitments and end modern slavery.
